Now that the new year has come around, it’s
time to think about getting new things set up for your own personal use at home.
We’re talking home offices here. If you do a lot of your work at home (or all
of it), why not treat yourself so that you’re comfortable and overall happy with where you work? You can even
write off a lot of these things as business expenses on your taxes. Whoop.
Here are just a few essential items you should
be going after for your updated office at home.
Hybrid
standing desk.
Tell me you’ve seen these things. They’re amazing. Whether you need to sit most of
the day or stand at times, these desks transition seamlessly from one style to
the other.
Standing desks are particularly good for your
health too because you shouldn’t be sitting hunched over all day in a chair. By
standing an hour or 2 a day (to the other 5 or 6 you’re sitting), you’ll
increase blood flow, attention span, posture, and energy. What a way to keep
yourself efficient and working.
A
comfortable computer chair.
They say your mattress and shoes are two of
the most important things to make sure you’re comfortable in to increase your lifespan.
Well, if you work at home or do a lot of your work at home, investing in a nice
computer chair is absolutely essential for the health of your back and neck.
Don’t be cheap when it comes to getting a nice chair. Get the one that you feel
is absolutely for you.
A nice
computer.
No duh, right? But seriously. Having a some
sort of cheap notebook or an outdated desktop computer severely hampers your
progress working. If you have to constantly restart your computer, unjam the
keys, delete memory to make room for other files, or your monitor is displaying
random colors in certain parts of the screen, t’s time you get that computer
you’ve been eyeing for the last few years.
Daylight.
Alright, so this isn’t always possible with
some home offices depending on the amount of windows in your house, but I would
strongly advise that you make your home office in a room in your house with
sufficient natural lighting. Natural lighting boosts your mood naturally (who
would’ve thought?), which means your productivity level and overall happiness
working at home will be much higher than if you working in a dungeon of an
office with no sunlight.
